When I was about six or seven Martin spoke during his children’s talk about how the church is one big family. One of the ladies in church turned round from the pew in front on me and told me she would be my Auntie Margaret. At this point I rather loudly declared that ‘I already have an Auntie Margaret and don’t think I need another one, thank you!’
At age six the idea of the church family was clearly pretty much lost on me but is now one of the things that I love about St. Andrew’s Church.
I’ve been at St. Andrew’s Church for as long as I can remember. When I look back on significant points of my life so many of them are wrapped in happy memories of being in church. I’ve met some of my best friends there, was baptised there, met my husband there and got married there. It was within the church family that I found my feet and started to follow Jesus.
When I have news to share my church family are among the first people that I contact. When things aren’t going well there is always someone who I can ask for advice. In church, I’ve been fortunate enough to be surrounded at church by wonderful examples of faithful Christians. I’ve been encouraged and supported at every opportunity, picked up when I’ve been down and given the odd reality check here and there.
I love to worship there each Sunday with the many friends that have become family and it is a real privilege to worship and serve alongside them. I’ve come a long way from the bold six year old but I know I still have a long way to go.
I’m looking forward to many more years of worshipping, learning, growing and serving in St. Andrew’s and can only hope and pray that I can give a little bit back in gratitude for all that I’ve been given there throughout the years.
