Work in Schools

As well as our minister being chaplain to our local primary School, Warddykes and to our local Secondary School, Arbroath Academy, there is other valuable work done.  In particular there is a paired reading scheme set up in both these schools.  Members of the congregation visit on a weekly basis and provide an opportunity for children to get help with their reading on a one-to-one basis.  The church also responds to requests for individual projects –e.g. gardening and baking.  As part of the Religious and Moral element of their curriculum, the primary school brings groups of children to the church and members of the congregation are on hand to answer the children’s questions.  For many children, this visit is the first time they have been inside a church.

Invitations are issued to two primary schools to attend the Holiday Clubs.

In addition the church runs three programmes each year for different stages of the primary school – The Easter Code, Bubblegum and Fluff and Popcorn and Cake. Children and their teachers from all the primary schools in the town attend for a morning where they can explore areas of faith in a way relevant to them and to the school curriculum.
