imageWe were delighted to welcome Lorna Hood, Moderator of the General Assembly of The Church of Scotland, who on 22nd Augsut came to visit our Havilah Project, which operates out of our Community Spirit building. Lorna’s visit was a great encouragement to staff and volunteers alike and she was able to meet and spend time with a number of the men and women who visit our project, many of them on a daily basis. From these conversations, Lorna was able to build up a picture of the issues being faced and, thereafter, to reaffirm that a crucial role of the church in today’s society is the care of what she described as the ‘fragile people’ in our midst. Members of the press were present and asked Lorna for comment on the existance of the Misty Heavn shop next door, from where so-called legal highs are sold. In response, she expressed her surprise that such shops are allowed to trade without the need for licencing and, equally, about it’s being sited next to Community Spirit. However, she was at pains to stress that the purpose of her visit was to see for herself the Havilah Project in operation.image

St. Andrew’s Church wishes Lorna well for the remainder of her year as Moderator of the Church and is committed to praying for her throughout the year.
