Websites Worth Visiting

Each week in our Sunday church bulletin and on our "This Week" page on this website we point to a website of relevance to our faith journey. Sometimes it is about a person, organisation or theme that we have highlighted in morning worship that week. At other times it is a website that someone in the congregation has found helpful, challenging or instructive in some way with regard to their faith journey. If you feel like a netsurf with a spiritual slant, try some of the sites below.

NB: Clicking on a link will open the new site in a separate window from the St Andrew's website.

If you're really in the mood for a netsurf and this list isn't enough, take a look at our previous links page.

Friends First
A Christian organisation run by Christians, exclusively for Christians - NOT an internet dating agency! Building meaningful relationships is a natural instinct for most of us. But for Christians there is an added dimension - a deep desire to develop friendships with like-minded believers. FriendsFirst help their members meet other Christians for fulfilling and rewarding relationships - whether you want to increase your circle of like-minded friends, find a soul mate, or a life long companion.

Christianity Explored
Developed over 10 years, Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him. You're not asked to pray, sing, or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can come along and simply listen

Souled Out
Souled Out is primarily involved in organising large-scale worship events in Aberdeenshire and the surrounding region. These events include time spent in worship, a challenging message, and an opportunity to respond. They also run an annual weekend event, ENCOUNTER, at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre. At ENCOUNTER there is more time and space for extra time in worship, training workshops, highlighting mission opportunities, and a host of other activities.
Boys' Brigade - 7th Arbroath Company
Our Boys' Brigade website has photos and news of their recent activities, particularly the award in June 2007 of the Queen's Badge to Sgt Keith Ewart.
Religion Facts
The goal of this website is to provide free, reliable information — "just the facts" — on the various answers that have been given to the near-universal questions - the meaning of life, how to make the best of it, what happens afterwards, and if there is anyone or anything "out there." ReligionFacts is an objective guide and does not promote any one religion or belief system nor even a particular view of religion. Their only "value statements" are these: (1) religion is interesting; (2) knowledge is good.
DEC
Disasters Emergency Committee
The DEC was created in 1963. It brings together a unique alliance of the UK's aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to rally the nation's compassion, and ensure that funds raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver effective and timely relief to people most in need. At present their focus is on Darfur and Chad - you can donate online at their website.
Christian Aid
Christian Aid is an agency of the churches in the UK and Ireland - including us here at St Andrew's. We work wherever the need is greatest - irrespective of religion or race. Because we believe in strengthening people to find their own solutions to the problems they face, we support local organisations, which are best placed to understand local needs. We also give help on the ground through 16 overseas offices. We strive for a new world transformed by an end to poverty and we campaign to change the rules that keep people poor.
Care for the Family
Care for the Family is a national charity which aims to promote strong family life and to help those hurting because of family breakdown. Care for the Family began as a department of CARE Trust in 1988, and was headed up by Rob Parsons, a well-known author and speaker. Care for the Family’s work is motivated by Christian compassion, but its resources and support are available to everyone, of any faith or none.

World Day of Prayer - Scotland
World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical, prayer movement initiated and carried out by Christian women in more than 180 countries and over 1000 languages. Every year Christians of many traditions and all ages, celebrate a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March. World Day of Prayer services are held all around the world, beginning in Tonga and New Zealand in the east and continuing throughout the day to Samoa and Alaska in the west. We bring the needs of the world, and of the writing country in particular, before Almighty God knowing that He will hear and answer us, as we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. God invites us to have a prayer relationship with Himself, but He also expects us to have concerned relationships with our neighbours, throughout the world. Prayer must be accompanied by action, as God moves our hearts and directs our thoughts.

Meanwhile, recent research suggests that only around 8% of the population attend church in the UK.
