St. Andrew’s Church was the venue for a major conference today (30th March 2012) hosted jointly by Angus Drug & Alcohol Partnership and the Scottish Drugs Recovery Consortium.
St. Andrew’s Church itself has a major stake in this subject and through its Havilah project has championed the principle of recovery from addiction since Havilah’s launch in 2006.
The day conference was opened by Dr. Robin Peat, Director of Angus Council Social Work, who affirmed the authority’s commitment to recovery as a principle. Thereafter, the keynote address was given by Rowdy Yates, lecturer at Stirling University, and a recognised authority in the field with over forty years experience. The afternoon was principally given over to opportunities for the near hundred participants to share with one another about what their particular services offer and to reflect on what more can be done to encourage recovery and tackle stigma.
The church proved to be a fantastic venue with the work of its volunteer staff in stewarding and catering complimenting the magnificent facilities that are on offer for major conferences of this kind.
