Lesley and her son Joel have recently joined us at St. Andrew’s following her marriage to David on Hogmanay.
“I grew up and lived in Northern Ireland all of my life until I moved to Scotland, with the exception of 4 years which I spent in Dublin. I was brought up in a Christian family, and became a Christian when I was six years old. My dad was the organist in our church in Carrickfergus and as a family we were very involved in all aspects of church life.
“When I left school I sat all my secetarial exams, but was then very fortunate to be given the opportunity to learn on the job and become a graphic designer. It was through my work I met Kevin, my first husband. Life was brilliant, we were happy, and moved to Dublin. I was delighted to have Joel 12 years ago after having had five miscarriages. However, when Joel was 9 weeks old Kevin took unwell and died of leukaemia. Joel and I moved home to Carrickfergus and back into my home church.
“I have known David since childhood, through various church events, and around nine years ago we rekindled our friendship. Last year we decided to get married, and had our wedding on Hogmanay. Joel and I moved over to be with David, as he is settled in his job. We have settled into living in Carnoustie - a small seaside town with a golf course - just like Carrick, but without the castle! Joel has settled into P7 and loves school as much as any boy does, and I am so grateful for that.
“Since I have been a part of St. Andrew’s Church, I have really had a feeling of belonging and being cared for, with people praying for my health in recent months, and my health showing a steady improvement as a result.
“As I am preparing to take on the job of church administrator, I am very excited! I am a bit of geek for things like data entry so I am hoping it will suit me down to the ground - and I should be able to use my skills in graphics as well.”
