The State of Cambodia's Children
This is a set of sobering facts supplied to us by World Vision, giving a picture
of what life is like for the children of Cambodia. Please use these as a focus
for your prayers and as an encouragement to action as we foster our Cambodia
Connection.

There are 6.3 million children in Cambodia; 2.2 live in poverty.
- One in eight children die before their fifth birthday. Most of these deaths
are preventable. 111 children under the age of 5 die each day.
- 45% of children under the age of 5 are moderately or severely underweight;
15% are moderately wasted and stunted, 45% are severely wasted and stunted.
- 34% of children do not have access to safe water; 84% are not using adequate
sanitation facilities.
- 65% of infants receive DPT3 (diptheria, polio and tetanus) vaccine.
- 220,00 primary-school age children are out of school; the majority (56 percent)
are girls. Less than one in five girls of the appropriate age are enrolled
in lower secondary school.
- It's estimated that 7,300 children under 14 years old in Cambodia are HIV-positive.
50,000 children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
