John Chalmers – Moderator – visits St. Andrew’s

Last Sunday, Sunday 1st march 2015, proved to be a very special one in the life of St. Andrew’s Church. Our guest was The Right Rev. John Chalmers, Moderator of The General Assembly of The Church of Scotland. John offered a superb sermon and presided over a most moving and meaningful celebration of Communion. As part of his visit, The Moderator gifted the congregation with one of his trademark glass doves. These have been specially made by craftsmen in Bethlehem – the glass pieces from which the doves are made being collected from bombed-out buildings etc. John’s vision is that these doves might offer hope to broken communities, that beauty can come from brokenness, and that congregations like ours might be inspired all the more to work for peace and reconciliation in our own communities and around the world.
